Norm Rodgers, who was elected President in 2014, invites you to join the NBHS OBA.
Norm Rogers

" The Newcastle Boys’ High School Old Boys’ Association was established in 1987, some  ten years after the school, as we knew it, was closed.

The OBA has three aims:
REUNIONS
To facilitate
reunions of former students & staff of the school

MEMORABILIA
To collect & safeguard
memorabilia of the school

ACADEMIC & CITIZENSHIP EXCELLENCE
Through scholarship encourage academic & citizenship excellence
in selected schools"

The Annual Reunion is a Dinner held at the City Hall, Newcastle on the second Saturday in August. At this function an exhibition of images from the 50 year class and 40 year class is presented.

These groups usually make a special point of gathering members of their year, and arrange other events around the date of the dinner. Old Boys are usually grouped with people who started at the school in the same year, and are usually identified by the year that the whole group would have completed the Leaving or Higher School Certificates, whether the individual left that year or not.

Through the investment of membership fees, donations and income from the sale of ties, badges etc the OBA has developed a financial base that allows the award of scholarships at three Newcastle schools.

I invite you to join the NBHS Old Boys’ Association.

Norm Rodgers - President

NBHS OBA MEMBERSHIP REPORT - 2023
- Greg Wilson Membership Coordinator

After a very good response from the 1972 cohort last year, we have been able to keep the decrease in the active membership numbers to a minimum.

The 1973 cohort have an e-mail address list for students from their year, and I expect we will gather some new members from that year, wanting to join in their 50 th year celebrations.

Our annual mail out via e-mail went a lot better this year with only minimal returns. We have e-mail addresses for 66% of our active membership.

Hopefully we can increase that over the next few years and lower our postal and printing costs further.

The last surviving Headmaster of NBHS, Vic Webber, passed away early this year. Vic was Headmaster in 1975-1976, following on from Tom Richardson.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm shown by the 1970’s cohort in attending their 50th year celebrations. These years had not had large attendances at our previous dinners, but due to organisers in their respective year rounding up ex-students, it has resulted in much greater numbers attending and this adds to the success of our dinner.

I hope this trend continues through to our last year of 1978.

Communications with our members is most important, and notification of changes to either e-mail or postal address by members is crucial in continuing our contact.

It is also helpful if members can advise of the passing of any Old Boy, so our database can be updated.
